Another fabulous book by Brad Meltzer. These "ordinary people change the world" books are the favorites in our house. My 4 year old can somewhat coherently speak about Lucille Ball and Rosa Parks and Jackie Robinson (though the bit about him sleeping in bed with his mom was NOT helpful) and Albert Einstein and Abraham Lincoln, and they give excellent examples of how great people can make choices, even when they are small, that can make a big difference.Lucille Ball is in particular a favorite. It gives us tools to talk about being yourself, rejection, work ethic, being silly, leadership, tenacity, and being different. We love it.
The 3rd graders LOVED Lucy! To be the person that introduced Lucy to 18 3rd graders was amazing! The kids LAUGHED so hard! We also added in some youtube magic and showed the clip of the chocolate factory scene. The kids were in love with Lucy!I am reading one book out of this series each month for my 3rd graders class. The kids have LOVE this book series! It is funny and it gets their attention. The illustrations are eye catching and the comic book style woven in gives it a different look. And the comic book parts are the kids favorite for me to read aloud. When the classroom event is over these books do not sit on the shelf very long. My 3rd grader is constantly reading them to her little sister. It has combined the informational side of non fiction with the conversational side of a novel. This is hard to do, especially in a children's book. Each book in the series leaves the child with a message of not giving up, being them self, working hard, and being creative. Probably one of the best all around children's book series in a long time.
Disclaimer: I’ve written the same review to almost all the books on this series. My daughter and son loves them.Been purchasing the whole series for a few months now. Super easy readings for kids, even for the 20-min trip between house and school. Interesting lives, and you can later discuss the story with the kids. I have found that most of them (stories) stick to their minds, even recalling full names and events a few weeks/months later.
This is such a wonderful series and such a cute book! Lots of great facts about an important lady. I (as a teacher!) learned so much from reading this to my students. I didn't know Lucille was so transformative for women in show business. It's well written with lots of interesting information and cute pictures.
I love this book. It goes into such great detail about Lucille Ball’s life but not too much where it bores a child. I love this and my three-year-old nephew loves it too. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is so inspiring. Great for adults and children!
Got to my house in just 2 days! It was packaged well. No imperfections on the book. I bought it (along with 2 others) as a birthday gift for a 6 year old.It is an educational book that tells the history of an amazing and ordinary woman and the journey she went through in her life.This is the kind of book you feel good about giving to a child, in hopes that they'll feel a little inspired or brave after reading.
Great series. My niece anxiously awaits the delivery of each new book. These books will be well worn over the years. Each book is read over and over again. She is learning history in a fun and exciting way. Dress up games have taken on a new twist. Instead of playing princess we reenact the characters of these stories.
Ordinary People Change the World Series is the best. You can't go wrong. I love that Brad Meltzer's story telling is very captivating and the illustration by Christopher Eliopoulos is so cute. My 5 year old loves it. We read these books every night. Each book teaches that they were just ordinary people who had different struggles in life but they persevere by being courageous and by not giving up.
