About the Author
Richard Wagamese is an Ojibway from the Wabasseemoong First Nation in northwestern Ontario. After winning a National Newspaper Award for Column Writing, he published two novels in the 1990s: Keeper’n Me and A Quality of Light. His autobiographical book, For Joshua, was published in 2002 and his most recent novel, Dream Wheels, was published in 2006. He lives outside Kamloops, British Columbia.

This was rough to read but it reached deep into my soul and ripped it out. I don't think any book ever made me cry like this but it did even more, it made me a better person. Here are my tips, commit to reading to the end and take breaks to enjoy the referenced films on netflix as you move through the story.
Exceptional writing and beautiful character development, this books welcomes you into a world most of us ignore, pity and despise, and introduces us to characters that live and breathed within these pages.It has profoundly affected how I will look at people living in the street. I encourage all to read this book.
My friend wrote, "I cannot put down this book that my son gave to me." Her son lives with schizophrenia and has a big heart for the marginalized and misunderstood people of the world. So I ordered it and read it almost greedily. It's about a group of homeless people, alcoholics all, though Amelia One Sky has many years of sobriety and looks after the rest. Their adventures and relationships are fascinating. I suspect that author Richard Wagamese knows whereof he speaks. When I finished, I sent my friend a message: "Well, I hope you're happy now. Tears are running down my face." (And I'm no softie.) I passed it along to my ex-spouse, who cannot stop talking about it. Now I wonder who'll get to read it next. Easy to read, nonpretentious, and *real*.
The story is a fascinating journey into one segment of marginalized communities. Loving and committed relationships occur across all humanity. As an octogenarian, I had to struggle through some pretty explicit language. All of us need to hear this story.
This is a beautifully written, often poetic, book about true and profound friendship that heals everyone privileged enough to be part of it. It gives a nuanced picture of the lives of the homeless and the relationship between the homeless and the rest of society and explores the question, "what happens when the homeless suddenly have a home?" The characters are fully real and fascinating.
This story was excellent. To have all of the group tell their personal life story,was amazing.when they found that big amount of money, some of them resented it, they had liked their life, the close relationships and they were comfortable in their lifestyles. funny, sad, and interesting all at the same time.
This book was very entertaining, a little simplistic and maudlin some times, but told a good story, glad I read it.
This is one of the most beautifully written book I have ever read. I came to know and care about each character and the story was different and surprising. Every person I have recommended it to loved it This book is a must read.
