This is a self-published, clearly unedited version. I couldn't get passed the first three pages as the typos were too distracting. For example, the copyright reads, "All rights reserved. No part of this book shell be reproduces..." And then the book begins, "Take Isaak, shine only son."
Kierkegaard does an excellent job explaining the various aspects of faith, largely on a framework of the story of Abraham and Isaac. This book may be more relevant today than it was at the time of its writing due to the popular practice of classifying faith as some lesser aspiration than that of reason. He explains that due to its inherent rejection of reason, and yet being substantive, faith is a discipline perhaps more worth of effort than that of reason.I found this book very enlightening and have enjoyed the expanded view of my own faith that it has provided. However, I feel that this book even holds value to the atheist due to its incredibly clear explanation of what faith truly is and how it functions. If you are up for some research into understanding the context of Kierkegaard's metaphorical world, this book is highly rewarding.
This is the worst translation of F&T that I’ve ever read, like someone put the original through google translate. Pay the extra money and get the Penguin Classics edition.
The spacing and organization are just bad enough to be distracting. Odd spaces between punctuation, no indentations of paragraphs, and the occasional spelling error (for example, "collechion" in the place of collection) all detract from the readability of this great work.This may just be on the paperwhite, but it is still frustrating.
It requires the revision of several references to be able to tie it up, but completely worth it. Now I'm starting the seducer s diaries. I hope it to be just as compelling as this one.
This book was what one would expect from Kierkegaard. The subject was interesting, but his writing was often over my head. Had to read many sections over and still wasn't sure what he was trying to say. I wish philosophers would sometimes speak in plain English, or Danish in Kierkegaard's case.One problem with this edition was that several passages from a few words to many sentences were in Greek, Latin, or German, but no translation was provided.
Great psychology/ deep thought book. Classical writing and great thought provoking information. Must read for anyone who wants to learn more about how people think.
