In the book Kyle laid out how we need to decrease so God can increase. I recommend this book for any small group that needs a good book to read when dealing with self-image, or self preservation, this book help to lay out a plan on how your mental self and physical self, and flesh self, will need to die to the spirit of God each and everyday.In the book Kyle mentions we are broken so that we can be made whole. without Brokenness there's no humbleness and there's no necessity for Jesus we have to desire a necessity for Jesus in order for us to know he's the only one we can lean on. He talked about that we replace another word when we don't allow Jesus to handle our Brokenness and that word is pride. the minute Pride enters in, pride will tend in making us look at our own self as being the necessity, and not our Brokenness needing Jesus. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone who needs to remember with a daily reminder to place themselves in last place by daily placing God in His rightful 1st place.
If you are seeking to know more about Jesus AND yourself, this is the book to read! Without dragging you into pits of despair about your inadequacies, Kyle points out the absolute beauty of shedding selfishness, anger, fear, and despair in the way which Jesus tells us...by taking the narrow path...by denying ourselves...by taking up our crosses JOYFULLY and dying to self in order to live for Christ. I cried at times...in repentance; I also laughed as I related to Kyle's humorous self-depreciation. Stuck in your walk? Be prepared to be fleet of foot after reading this book!
This book is amazing. The author explains, in terms everyone can understand, the meaning of "the end of me" and how it leads us to real life. I didn't want the book to end and it will be a book a read over and over again. I highly recommend this book.
Kyle Idleman has an easy way of writing and teaching that just grabs you. Honest, to the point, and transparent. Endearing, but it stings a bit, like a truth telling friend that you know is right. It's a subject that we all know we need to do, but self is hard to put down. Reading this book feels like you are sitting down at the kitchen table with a friend, and talking. This book will surely challenge you on dying to self and following Christ, solely. Comfortable to read, but it will sure make you think. Think you're not selfish? Think you are a totally sold out Christian who does it all perfectly? This book will make you realize that it's only when you give your whole life over, do you even begin to start your Christian walk with Christ. Get this book, and change your whole way of thinking!!
It's a decent read and, as the concept of 'the end of me' is developed seems to be ok. However, it does not, for me, entail any understanding, perspective, or conceptual or practical tools that are remotely new or especially impactful.The main problem for me is 'the end of me,' catchphrase. While catchy, is pretty far off base. The Christian faith is not remotely about ending or denying the self, but rather finding the true self by denying one's own heart (mind, will, emotions, etc.) wherever it is not in accord with God's heart (mind, will, emotions, etc.). It is about training one's own inner being, one's own character, to conform to the Spirit of Christ.The Christian project is, rather, the 'beginning of me,' which is to be a lifetime undertaking. I don't think Idleman would disagree. He, or the editors, just went astray with a kind of clever marketing phrase that could too easily be abused.
What a phenomenal manuscript. Kyle Idleman tore his garments and allowed himself to be used to teach us some of the very essence of the word of God. I once heard it be said that "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear". I guess that I was ready because for the life of me I don't know how I came across this book. I've been entranced with it from beginning to end. I've just had one of the greatest Ah Ha moments, so much so that I just want the feeling to last forever. For you Christians out there... If you're honest with yourself there'll be tears, there'll be laughter and there'll be a reckoning. Happy Journey!
This book is amazing! Each chapter has challenged me in a very good way. It helps you to approach life in a way that is counter-cultural. The book goes through the beatitudes but applies it to modern day life. It addresses humility, mourning, pride etc. if you really want to be challenged in your thought process and have less of yourself at the center of your life read this book.

Now I purchased and am reading Your 'Grace' which leave me no doubt that God's Grace, Illumination is upon You. Your explications are EXACTLY WHAT THIS DROWNING IN GUTTER WORLD NEEDS! I pray for You and Your God's Inspiration. Please, never stop enlightening this self-destructing world of destructing souls that our only hope for salvation is our lowliness and humility. Thank You , Thank You and God inspire and protect You from the 'progressive' souls-devouring demons.
